With Stinging nettles, Elderberries, Elder flowers, Eyebright and Goldenrod, our Allergy Buster Blend helps your sinuses deal with those pesky pollens and the dust that makes you sneeze!

Stinging nettles - Dr. Axe tells us that histamine production in the body creates the adverse reactions related to allergies. Allergies cause uncomfortable congestion, sneezing, itching and more. Stinging nettle’s anti-inflammatory qualities affect a number of key receptors and enzymes in allergic reactions, preventing hay fever symptoms if taken when they first appear. The leaves of the plant contain histamine, which may seem counterproductive in allergy treatment, but there is history of using histamines to treat severe allergic reactions.

Elderberry - Research shows elderberry to be rich in the flavonoid quercetin which modulates inflammation and has an antihistamine effect. As a result, Quercetin may play part in elderberry’s ability to reduce symptoms of allergies including runny nose and watery eyes.

Elder flowers - Along with improving our diet and lifestyle and getting more exercise, there are many herbs that are effective in helping to reduce allergy symptoms, and there are some that in the long run can help eliminate allergies altogether. Black elder flower falls into the former category. It is one of the most effective herbs used in Western herbalism for treating hay fever-like symptoms. It can be used on its own or in combination with other herbs such as the other four herbs in this blend!

Eyebright - According to herbalists in the UK, Eyebright works against allergies, colds, sinusitis and general respiratory discomfort - it contains naturally astringent tannins that can help to reduce catarrh and mucus discharge. It is thought that these tannins work by tightening the mucous membranes, whilst the flavonoids found in this herb can provide relief from seasonal allergies, coughs, colds and chest congestion.

Goldenrod - The Chestnut School of Herbal Medicine teaches that Goldenrod is a premier decongestant, effectively alleviating upper respiratory congestion stemming from allergies, sinusitis, flu, or the common cold. It can be taken as a tea, syrup, or tincture for this purpose. In the School's experience, it is one of the strongest herbs for drying the sinuses.
